Born on January 16, 1931 in Ernest, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest child to Joseph Stanley Briscoe and Mary Louise Berish.

Dorothy was of average build and short of stature (5 foot 2 1/2 inch). She had dark blond hair and blue-green eyes.
