Born January 18, 1911 in Lloydsville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the fourth oldest child of the ten children of John George Petiya and his wife Anna Kolcum.

Description

Joseph was of average build (weighing 165 lbs in 1940) and stature (5 foot 7 1/2 inch). He had brown hair and brown eyes.

Joseph completed the eight grade.

Religion

Baptized into the Catholic faith on January 22, 1911 at St. Vincent Basilica Church in Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of St. Pius X Church in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.

He never served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Family Years

Married Mary Magdalene Mink on January 21, 1928. The couple had two children, one son - Robert Joseph and one girl - Helen Magdalene.
