Born June 1, 1920 in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. A child of Simon Yonut and Ruth Ann Dragus.

Description

Simon was average in height and build. He was clean shaven and wore glasses in his later life.

He went by the name of Sam.

Simon Yonut Jr served in the U.S. Army. He began serving on May 16, 1944 and was discharged on July 1, 1945. During the Battle of the Bulge, Simon was hit by shrapnel fragment in the neck from an artillery shell. He received a Purple Heart Medal.

Clapp Lodge No. 655, where he had served as the lodge education officer; a member of York Rite Chapter, Council and Commandery; a member of the Royal Arch Masons Mahoning Chapter No. 10; member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 80 in Warren and a 32nd degree mason with Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown. Simon was also a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and the Cortland American Legion Post No. 540

Death

Simon passed away on February 13, 2007 at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.

He was buried in February 2007 at Lordstown Village Cemetery in Lordstown, Trumbull County, Ohio.
