Robert was born on July 18, 1928 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio. He was the only child to William Roy Swickard and Lavina Jean Cooper.

Description

He was of average build (185 lbs in 1947) and stood 5 foot 11 inches tall. He had blue eyes and brown hair, although it was blonde at birth. He wore glasses in his later years as well as had his hair cut in a crew-cut style.

Married Elizabeth Jane Nemitt on April 11, 1951 in Danville in the Common Wealth Virginia by Minister Robert A. Whitten. The couple had eight children: three boys - William Michael, John Robert and Robert George, and five girls - Karen Elizabeth, Elizabeth Jane, Roberta Marie, Catherine Sue and Diana Lee.

Working Years

  • He worked as a Yard Supervisor for Ohio Edison Toronto Plant and as an Operator at Anthony Mining Co. in Knoxville.
  • He worked 16 hours a day for 35 years.  Ohio Edison on day turn and then he worked a steam shovel in the strip mines at night.  His kids almost never saw him growing up.
  • Sometimes, he pumped gas on the weekend.

Personal Life

He went by the name Bob or the nickname was Swick.

As for hobbies, he had none as he never had time for them.

Death

Robert died from complications from diabetes on January 9, 1998 at the Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio.

He was buried on January 12, 1998 at Toronto Union Cemetery in Toronto, Jefferson County, Ohio.
