Born on February 7, 1922 in Dixonville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She was the twelfth child of Michael Berish and Anna P. Mudry.

Description

Margaret who stood about 5 foot 6 inches tall was of average build. She had brown eyes and brown hair.

Early Years

Education

Margaret complete the 8th grade. Later she would obtain her GED and receive her high school equivalency diploma.

Religion

Margaret was baptized into the Catholic faith.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She later became a member of the St. Ambrose Rosary Society in Avonmore, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Family Years

Married Edward Shine on about 1935 but the couple later divorced. The couple had no children. Margaret later married Frank John McBride in 1960 in Manhattan, NYC Borough, New York County, New York. The couple also did not have children.

Neither couples had children.

Residences

Lived in New York City, New York County, New York for 50 years.

Lived in Avonmore, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania from 1984 until her death in 1998.

Working Years

She was employed as a bookkeeper at Cascade Linen Services in Brooklyn, New York County, New York for 37 years.

Personal Life

After she later married Frank McBride and lived most of her adult life on the West Side of Manhattan. Around the age of thirty-five she and her husband contracted Tuberculosis and left the city to rest and recuperate at Lake Placid, New York. In that year and a half, she became skilled at the typewriter and worked diligently to obtain her GED degree.

When they moved back to Manhattan, she took a job in Harlem· and spent most of her days traveling on the subway making multiple transfers each day that made her very afraid. She shared many stories about her subway adventures.

Her husband Frank died in1978 and Margaret retired from her job in 1984. Upon retirement, she decided to “come home” to Pennsylvania. She settled in an apartment much larger, newer, and prettier than she had ever known in New York… at Faith Manor in Avonmore. Everyone pitched in to make her "new" apartment a "home."  Her sister, Mary Stapinsk, also resided in the apartment building and frequently reminded Margaret to "watch out for all the traffic here on the streets of Avonmore!" (Imagine telling that to a person who had just moved from Manhattan!)[1]

Death

Margaret died from cardiac arrest on September 14, 1998 at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Louise Dellafiora was named beneficiary in Margaret’s will.

She was buried on September 17, 1998 at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
