Born November 29, 1916 in Beatty, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the sixth oldest child of the ten children of John George Petiya and his wife Anna Kolcum.

Andrew, or Andy as he was known, was of average build (weighing 159 lbs in 1940) and short of stature (5 foot 10 1/2 inch). He had a light complexion along with brown hair and blue eyes. In

• Childhood - Andrew had six brothers, Stephen, John R., Joseph Peter, Frank Joseph, Paul Edward and Thomas Frank, and three sisters, Anna, Helen Barbara and Pauline. The family moved to Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio in 1942.

He was buried in July of 1977 at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.
