Born on August 9, 1954 at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. She was the third oldest child of Albert James Timko and Pauline Joann Petiya.

Sheryl was of average build and height. She had brown hair and brown eyes. She wore eyeglasses in her later years.

Early Years

  • Childhood - Paulette when by the nickname "Shay Shay."
    • On April 1, 1955, while the young family of Albert and Pauline (Petiya) Timko were living in their home on Fourth Street, they were confronted with a life-changing experience. One of their young children was going to be horribly injured. That evening started with a young Pauline in the kitchen making the evening dinner while her husband Al was stretched out on the couch. Pauline had to leave the kitchen for a moment and she left the food cooking. It just happened that their oldest daughter Sheryl was a toddler at the time and was learning to walk by holding on to the furniture. She somehow found her way into the kitchen and began walking along the kitchen wall. When she reached the counter, she became entangled with the cord of the hot deep fryer. As she started to move away, she pulled the deep fryer on herself. The hot oil poured out onto her lower body and suddenly the quiet evening was filled with the screams of a badly burned child. What happened next was a bit of a blur. Albert and Pauline rushed to help their daughter. A neighbor Wanda who was a nurse living upstairs came down to their aid. Sheryl spent the next six weeks in St. Joseph’s Hospital while the staff used the newly-developed technique of using detergents to keep the damaged area clean. Sheryl survived the burns to her legs and in time she might have even forgotten about the whole experience if not for the scars that would remain with her for the rest of her life. However, if you were to meet her on the street today, you would be greeted by a woman with a broad smile and a twinkle in her eye. Sometimes time does heal all wounds.[1]
