Born September 9, 1937 in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. She was the oldest child of John Michael Karafa and Mary Helen Suchta.

Description

Anna was of average build and average in height. She had brown hair and wore eye glasses for the majority of her life.

  • Childhood - She was born a twin with her sister Marie. Also, originally her name was Eleanore but for some unknown reason her mother had it changed a week later which they family only found out when she had to get an original birth certificate for Social Security.

Education

Anna graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio in 1955.

She later took several secretarial courses which led to her career as an executive secretary at Glenn View Manor Nursing Home in Niles, Trumbull County, Ohio.

Religion

Anna was baptized into the Catholic faith.

She was a member and lecturer for Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 3020 Reeves Road, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.

Family Years

How she met her husband - Anna & Paul had always known each other as our family’s belonged to Sts Cyril and Methodius church forever. They attended Catechism for many years, and we knew the “twins” but didn’t really connect then.  After completing Catechism, we only met at church functions and dances. After Paul had gone into the Marines, he came home one weekend and my friend told me that he was invited to a wedding and that I could go with him. When we got to the wedding Anna and a friend were there and we danced and spent the evening with them. Later we took them home and Paul asked Anna if he could write to her and she agreed. For the next year and a half, we wrote and dated whenever he came home. After his discharge he came home and worked at Denman Tire for six months and then went to Kansas City MO. to Central Technical Institute to obtain his First Class Engineers License in broadcasting In the meantime Anna had graduated from Warren G. Harding and was working as a secretary at US Gypsum. After two years Paul completed his coursework and came home to Warren and got a job as an engineer at WICA AM and FM in Ashtabula, OH and they were married on June 14th, 1958

Anna married Paul Albert Petrilla on June 14, 1958 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.. The couple had four children: two boys - Dennis Edward and Charles Michael, and two girls - Theresa Marie and Susan Mary.

Anna was both a homemaker and was employed as an executive secretary at Glenn View Manor Nursing Home in Niles, Trumbull County, Ohio. for 27 years.

She formerly worked as a stenographer for U.S. Gypsum Company.

Personal Life

Anna was a woman of deep faith, an avid reader and was a lecturer for her local church. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, watching movies, taking walks and spending time with her family.

Death

Anna passed away on September 15, 2021 in Leesburg, Loudon County, Virginia.

Her remains were cremated in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia. Her ashes were interred in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta, Trumbull County, Ohio.The cemetery is on Hoagland-Blackstub Road, one mile north of SR 305 in Cortland, Trumbull County, Ohio. This cemetery is approximately 7-8 miles north of Warren, Ohio. Her grave can be found in Section 3, Lot 2319, Graves 2.
