Born on April 13, 1941 in Aultman, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest child of Paul Joseph Berish and Jeannette Polly Everitt.

Married James Alexander Patterson on June 9, 1959. The couple would eventually have five children, two boy: James Patterson and unnamed boy, and three girls: Doreen A., Linda and Karen Lynn. One boy died two days after his birth. The couple later divorced.

She was buried on August 25, 1993 at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Trumbull County, Ohio.
