Born on July 13, 1932 in Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. There were three children, and he was the oldest child, to Stephen Bartek and Stella Swincicki.

He was buried on September 11, 2008 at St. Bernard Cemetery in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. His grave is located in St. Bernard Cemetery which is located on 200 Clairvaux Drive, about one and half miles northeast of Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
