Early Years
- Childhood
- Pat, as he was called by friends and family, was the middle child of the family. When the family lived in Warren County, Ohio, he had a cat named Rudolf, in addition to the family's Irish Setter, Goldie. He enjoyed playing in the fields and woods around his home with his brothers. When the family moved to Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, Pat spent hours riding his hand-modified bicycle throughout the city. One of his shining moments was riding down Hodapp Avenue, a very steep street in hilly East Dayton while the bicycle, unfortunately, had no brakes. He survived the ensuing crash and went on to cause more mayhem with his brothers. He was always proud to defend his little sister, Mary Cathleen Laughlin (Katie) from any bullies that might cause trouble on the daily walk to and from Holy Angels Elementary School. In high school, Pat took a job "pumping gas" at a local Shell gas station to earn the money needed to buy his own "junker" car.
