Born on August 13, 1921 in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. She was the second oldest child born to Edward Grohosky and Theresa Mary Baird.

Ceclia, or Bette as she was known, was of average build and stature. She had brown eyes and brown hair.
