Born on July 21, 1952 in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. She was the second oldest child of the five children born to Robert Joseph Petiya and Grace Myrtle Funk.

Her remains were buried on July 22, 1952 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. The grave of Helen is located at St. Mary's Cemetery on the west side of the intersection of Niles Road SE (Ohio State Route 169) and Thomas Road SE. This cemetery is approximately 1 1/2 miles southeast of Warren, Ohio.
