He enjoyed playing in the fields and woods around his home with his brothers. One of his shining moments was riding down Hodapp Avenue, a very steep street in hilly East Dayton while the bicycle, unfortunately, had no brakes. He survived the ensuing crash and went on to cause more mayhem with his brothers. He was always proud to defend his little sister, Mary Cathleen Laughlin (Katie) from any bullies that might cause trouble on the daily walk to and from Holy Angels Elementary School. In high school, Pat took a job "pumping gas" at a local Shell gas station to earn the money needed to buy his own "junker" car.
