Emigration & Immigration
Verna emigrated from Rotterdam, Netherlands on July 21, 1921 and immigrated into the United States of America in aboard the SS Nieuw Amsterdam and arrived in New York City, NY on Aug 6, 1921.
Education
Verna completed the equivalent of the fifth grade before immigration to America.
Religion
Verna was baptized into the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aliquippa, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
Family Years
How Verna came to meet her future husband Andrew George Timko can only be a matter for speculation. It is known that the Slovak miners lived in very close-knit communities where everyone knew everyone else. Perhaps they met during a church social or through mutual friends or simply as neighbors. No matter, the county records show they were married on February 5, 1923 in Dixonville, Indiana County, PA.
Never the next eight years, the young couple would have four children: two boys - Andrew John and Stephen John and two girls - Helen Louise and Margaret Jean.
