Born August 14, 1923 in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. She was the ninth oldest child of Joseph A. Bishop and Sophia Pichnarcik.

Martha was of average build and height of 5 foot seven inches. She had curly, light brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. In early photographs, they showed her have a broad smile and sparkling eyes.

She was buried on 21 May 21, 2010 at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Hermitage, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. The cemetery is located at 2440 Longview Road about three miles southwest of Hermitage, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Martha's grave can be found on the right side of the main entrance about 200 feet from the road.
