Joseph died of a fractured skull in mining accident on May 20, 1948 at the Kent #1 mine in Young Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He was buried on May 24, 1948 at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
